‘Power scenario to stabilise by January’

Solar energy should be harnessed even if the initial cost of installation was on the higher side. Electricity must be conserved to the extent possible for a safe future, speakers stressed at the inauguration of the Energy Conservation Week organised by the Tangedco, here on Saturday.

Tangedco chief engineer (in-charge), Tiruchi circle, M.N. Kumarasamy Raja, said that the current power scarcity would ease in the months to come and stabilise to meet the requirement by January. Noting that the State-wide shortage of power was to the tune of 2,000 MW, Mr. Raja said that individual efforts to conserve energy would definitely lead to a mass saving.

He assured that the Tangedco was making sincere efforts to provide seamless service to consumers and that consumers should register their names and phone numbers with the agency for getting SMS alert on current charges. The scheme of SMS alerts would shortly be implemented, he said. Already the facility for online payment was fast catching up.

Earlier, Karur DSP S.M. Elango flagged off a rally from the SE’s office on Kovai road, which culminated at the meeting venue near Thinnappa Corner. A large number of students and officials carried placards highlighting energy conservation.
