Poor planning by the successive AIADMK and DMK governments had driven the State into this appalling power situation, DMDK leader Vijayakant said.

He was speaking at a protest demonstration organised by his party in front of Anna statue here on Saturday against the increase in prices of essential commodities especially electricity tariff.

He predicted that the power situation may still worsen and Tamil Nadu may witness even 20 hours of power cut. He called upon the people to teach a lesson to AIADMK in future by-elections.

Referring to the jubilance of AIADMK over the thumping victory it got in Sankarankoil recently he wondered that why they are not speaking about their humbling defeat in Pennagaram by-elections some time ago.

“I have belief in God and I swear in the name of Lord Annamalayar that lives of poor people would be better only when DMDK comes to power in the State,” Mr.Vijayakant asserted.

He criticised AIADMK for stifling voices of opposition in the State Assembly while encouraging sycophancy. “Whenever I rose to speak about the people's troubles the speaker would intervene to say that time was over. But AIADMK members, Ministers who heap praise on Chief Minister are allowed to continue. The Finance Minister lavishly praised Ms. Jayalalithaa even while presenting the budget. That's why I have not attended the ongoing Assembly session even after the ban on me (to attend Assembly session) was over on April 4. However I will go to the house at the right time,” Mr.Vijayakant added.

Power tariff hike coupled with slab system in the tariff are going to affect people adversely, he said. He also said that it will take one year before Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant could produce electricity.
