‘22,358 doctors and nurses appointed in last 4 years’

In three months, there will be no vacant posts in government hospitals in the State, according to Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar.

Inaugurating an additional building constructed at a cost of ₹10 crore at the District Headquarters Hospital, Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai on Friday, he said in the last four years, 22,358 doctors and nurses have been appointed in the State.

“In the last one year alone, appointment orders were given to 2,800 doctors and nurses. The Chief Minister has handed over appointment orders to 316 assistant doctors,” he said, according to a press release.

‘Dip in infant mortality’

The Central government has announced that the infant mortality rate has reduced to 10% in the State, he said.

He pointed out that the number of patients affected by dengue had reduced and was brought under control .

He added that 67% children were born in government institutions in the State. Through the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, government hospitals had generated revenue of ₹1,555 crore. The Minister said an order sanctioning ₹3.37 crore to provide beds for emergency care unit, fully-equipped operation theatre, modern X-ray, scan facility and other equipment for the District Headquarters Hospital at Cheyyar was issued immediately. He added that 108 ambulance facility would be provided for Cheyyar in a week, and the GH at Arni would be upgraded into the District Headquarters Hospital soon.

Sevur S. Ramachandran, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, and K. S. Kandasamy, Collector were present.
