DMK posters are back again in the city. Many walls in and around the busy Periyar bus stand, Arapalayam and Karimedu, to name a few, had the mega-size posters, which drew the attention of the public here on Saturday.
Suspected to have been pasted by some sympathisers of rebel DMK leader M.K. Alagiri, who was removed from the party, the words coined on the posters apparently pointed fingers at his younger brother M.K. Stalin.
As a sequel to the poor show of the party in the Lok Sabha polls, the posters said, “Elders’ advice may annoy, they are nothing but truth and only truth. This comes out of experience and it tastes like a sour gooseberry…” It went on saying, “For youngsters, it may look odd, but it has to be followed with dedication.”
The portrait of Mr. Alagiri on the side of the posters is likely to trigger a controversy, passersby said.
In the past, the posters were seen as a major factor for suspension of some key party functionaries in the DMK. Though it created a “political storm” for a while, before it died down, it displayed the internal squabbles in the open.
The criticism comes in as the DMK treasurer Mr. Stalin was allegedly responsible for the party’s poll debacle. Even when the BJP had opened its account by winning from Kanyakumari, despite the landslide performance of the AIADMK, the “no-show” of the DMK reflected the party in a poor light,” a functionary close to Mr. Alagiri said and added that whether it was Alagiri factor or not, the party should examine the reasons for its flop.
