Very similar to the walls of a shabbily maintained public toilet in a busy bus terminus, walls of the buildings at the Collectorate at Kokkirakulam here are carrying a few hundred posters of various caste outfits and associations.
While one of the posters glorifies a community leader, another one released by the fans of a tinsel world hero welcomes guests to a wedding. Carrying warnings, wishes, appeals or highlighting some problems in a bid to attract the official machinery’s attention, a few hundred posters have defaced the Collectorate.
However, no action has been taken so far against those who have stuck these posters on the walls of the government buildings though punitive measures can be initiated against offenders under the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1959.
Sheristadhar Devarpiraan said posters stuck on the Collectorate walls were removed a few months ago with the help of corporation officials. “We’ll look into the issue,” he said.
