Porayar depot roof collapse: CM announces compensation

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami condoled the deaths and has deputed Ministers O.S. Manian and M.R. Vijayabhaskar to monitor the relief operations.

He also announced a solatium of ₹7.50 lakh to the families of each of those who died in the incident, ₹1.50 lakh to those severely injured and ₹50,000 who suffered minor injuries.

Mr. Palaniswami said that a member of the bereaved family would be given a government job depending on their qualification. Senior Minister D. Jayakumar said that the government would not hesitate to take action if an irregularity in the construction of the building was found

TMC president G.K. Vasan said the government should provide a compensation of at least ₹20 lakh to the family of the deceased and the best medical facilities to those injured.

AISMK founder R. Sarathkumar said that the government should demolish old and dilapidated government buildings and build new ones.
