Former minister K. Ponmudy has approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case relating to quarrying of red sand in patta lands.

In a petition, he stated that following a complaint by the Tahsildar, Vanur, the District Crime Branch, Villupuram, had registered a case for alleged offences under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulations) Act, Prevention of Corruption Act and for conspiracy, assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, theft, criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal intimidation. He had nothing to do with the alleged offences.

Justice B. Rajendran has adjourned the matter for September 4.
