Pongal bird count between January 15 and 18

January 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - SALEM:

To understand the distribution and abundance of common as well as un-common bird species in the State, Pongal Bird Count 2015 would be conducted across the State from January 15 to 18.

K. Gnanaskandan, Moderator of Tamil Birds Group and Regional Coordinator for Pongal Bird Count, said that this was the first synchronised bird monitoring programme of the State to record and monitor different bird species of Tamil Nadu. People can observe birds from anywhere for a minimum of 15 minutes and record the species along with their numbers seen in a particular time duration any of these four days. The list of bird sightings should be uploaded into bird listing and documentation platform ‘eBird’ (www.ebird.org).

The final data will provide valuable information on the distribution and abundance of birds present across the state. For details, contact: 90033-59400.
