A poll code violation case has been slapped against former Union Minister E V K S Elangovan and 20 others for organising an unauthorised public meeting, officials said on Tuesday.

Mr. Elangovan was addressing a meeting on Monday at K N Palayam village near Gobichettipalayam, and when the flying squad sleuths who arrived there tried to videograph the proceedings, they were prevented from doing so, officials said.

As prior permission is required to conduct a public meeting, they were slapped with a case of poll code violation, they said.

However, Erode District Panchayat Council Chairman Saravanan said Mr. Elangovan had only been discussing with his supporters about the visit to the district of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who is due here on March 31.
