All arrangements were in place for the May 16 Assembly election in the six constituencies of the district, said Collector and District Election Officer M. Ravikumar here on Friday.
Talking to media persons, he said that the district had a total electorate of 13,79,739. Polling would begin at 7 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. No one would be allowed to conduct campaign or hold public meeting or rally after Saturday evening.
As many as 1,562 booths, manned by 8,802 staff, had been set up in the district.
Of the postal ballots issued to 6,789 teachers, 4,577 had exercised their franchise. Out of 1,673 police personnel, 1,315 had cast their votes.
Voters who could not produce electors photo identity card (EPIC) could cast their votes by bringing any one of the 11 documents specified by the Election Commission.
Outsiders would not be allowed to stay inside the district after 6 p.m. on Saturday and police personnel would be involved in identifying whether outsiders were staying back, Mr. Ravikumar said.
Earlier, he convened a meeting with representatives of political parties to seek their cooperation for the smooth conduct of polls. Superintendent of Police Ashwin M. Kotnis and electoral officers were present at the meeting.
