Two days after the gruesome sexual assault on two minor girls, some political parties and social organisations on Saturday sought action against the management of Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church (TELC), alleging that negligence and misconduct on its part led to the rape.
In a petition to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pollachi, a delegation of some parties, along with members of social organisations, held the TELC management responsible for the incident.
They also charged the management with failure to provide basic facilities and security for the home, which had 20 children (17 boys and 3 girls), all of them minors. Further, it had not registered the home under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The home was sealed on Thursday on the orders of Collector Archana Patnaik. The Department of Social Welfare had ordered the closure of home last year itself, but the home failed to comply with the order. The petitioners demanded that the office-bearers of the management be charged with the crime.
Indu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath was denied permission to see the victims who were undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital here. He was also prevented from entering the TELC premises.
He accused the management of misusing the funds raised in India and abroad for the upkeep of children.
