The police here on Monday used mild force to disperse cadres of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party who clashed.

Sources said a verbal dual that broke out between the supporters of Kumar and Gopi, candidates of the Congress and the BJP for the 25th ward, over casting of bogus votes soon turned into a physical clash.

The police dispersed them by opening mild lathi charge near the government hospital. A few persons have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Cadres of the AIADMK and the DMDK clashed at a booth near the Government College for Women here. The DMDK had alleged that the AIADMK workers cast bogus votes by forming a syndicate among booth agents.

About 50 cadres of DMDK raised slogans against the AIADMK for indulging in malpractice. When they were about to disperse after complaining to election authorities a large number of AIADMK workers thronged the place. Stones were thrown.

However, no one was injured.

In the third incident, the residents of Chinnakadai staged a demonstration near the government hospital alleging that AIADMK candidate Raja Husain, who is contesting from ward No.16 had assaulted Abdul Haq, an Independent candidate in the fray for the post of Chairman of the Ramanathapuram Municipality, for complaining of bogus voting.

Abdul Haq has been admitted to hospital here.
