As many as 137 aspirants will undergo a 21-day training for becoming private security guards in Kanyakumari district. The programme, conducted by the police department, began at the Armed Reserve Ground here on Wednesday.
The trainees in the age group of 18 to 45 years, who include a post-graduate and six graduates, will participate in about 100 hours of classroom instruction and 60 hours of field training at the end of which a campus recruitment drive will be conducted for their placement under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Skill Development Mission. The minimum eligibility prescribed is a pass in eighth standard.
N. Manivannan, Superintendent of Police, inaugurated the training in the presence of V. Ashoke Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, and DSP Palanikumar.
The programme, a combined initiative of the police and Department of Employment and Training, could serve as a platform for career progression since there is scope for the trainees to start private security agencies by themselves later on.
Mr. Manivannan urged the participants to inculcate a sense of pride in the job.
All the trainees were given a handbook on skills for security guards prepared by the Police Training College, Chennai.
On February 14, a placement camp would be held at the AR Ground, officials said.
