More than a fortnight after Ramkumar was arrested for allegedly murdering Infosys employee Swathi at Nungambakkam railway station in Chennai, his father Paramasivan on Tuesday claimed that the police had attempted to kill his son by slitting his throat while apprehending him at his village.

The police had earlier said that Ramkumar had attempted suicide and slashed his throat using a blade when the police entered his house around midnight on July 1. Mr. Paramasivan submitted a complaint to Shencottai police levelling various allegations. In his complaint, He claimed that when the police team, led by Tenkasi Police Station Inspector Balamurugan, came to his house, the personnel held Ramkumar and slit his throat in a bid to kill him. He also claimed that his son was innocent.

He urged the police to register a case of “attempt to murder” against Inspector Balamurugan and other personnel who accompanied him on that day.

While Shencottai police issued a receipt acknowledging the complaint on Tuesday evening, they did not register a case. Earlier based on the complaint from Mr. Balamurugan, Shencottai police had registered a case against Ramkumar for attempting to commit suicide.
