The Karipatti police on Tuesday registered an FIR against Transport Minister V. Senthil Balaji for allegedly distributing cash to voters of Chinnagoundapuram village near Karipatti.
The complaint was lodged by K. Munusamy, DMK’s Karipatti Union Secretary, on Monday.
The police said the Minister and another party functionary ‘Medical’ Raja alias Rajasekaran were booked under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (i) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Saris, sweaters seized
Police and Revenue officials on Tuesday seized 2,250 saris and 2,616 sweaters from two goods carriers in poll-bound Yercaud.

Three persons have been booked for allegedly carrying 2,250 saris without receipt. One of them had been arrested.
A flying squad led by Deputy Tahsildar K. Veerappan intercepted a vehicle at M. Selliampalayam on Ayothiyapattinam-Belur Road. Police said saris packed in 15 bundles (150 saris in each bundle) were found in the goods carrier.
The driver of the vehicle, Sakthi (30), jumped out of the van and fled.
