Police quell protest

April 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Tirunelveli:

Police had to use mild force to disperse protestors, who blocked the busy Tirunelveli– Tenkasi highway on Tuesday evening following the suicide of a youth who was facing several cases. The police said S. Arul Suresh (26) of Sivalarkulam near Alangulam, who was enlarged on bail after being arrested recently for illicit sand mining, was taking efforts to get his tractor released from police custody. As he could not mobilise money to release the tractor, Arul Suresh, who was also facing a murder case, committed suicide by consuming poison. Alleging that he was forced to commit suicide by the police, his relatives blocked the road. After the efforts taken by the police to pacify the crowd failed, the law-enforcers used mild force to disperse the crowd.
