Police ill-eqipped to handle high-profile cases: AIADMK

January 30, 2014 11:21 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 06:37 pm IST - PUDUCHERRY:

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Thursday urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to intervene and order National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the pipe bomb case.

Speaking to reporters, A. Anbalagan, floor leader, AIADMK, Puducherry, said that though people of Puducherry had come across incidents of country bomb attacks, they have never heard of such a powerful bomb as planted in the car of Union Minister. This has proved that anti-social elements had a free run in Puducherry owing to poor law and order situation.

Claiming that the Puducherry police were ill-equipped to handle high-profile cases, Mr. Anbalagan said NIA should be asked to probe the case from many angles. Transferring the case to Crime Branch CID would not be of much help.

To a question, he said that the crime might not have been committed with the help of local elements.

R. Viswanathan, secretary, Communist Party of India, said the incident highlighted the failure of intelligence agencies. A detailed inquiry must be conducted. Observing a bandh would only cause inconvenience to people.
