Police foist cases on TVK workers: Velmurugan

: Founder of the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi T.Velmurugan has alleged that the police across the State have made it customary to foist cases on his party functionaries and workers.

“Such police action without any valid reasons is highly condemnable. The police are doing it under the extraneous influence just to alienate the TVK from the ruling All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with which it has good relations,” he said.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr Velmurugan called for a thorough enquiry into all those cases foisted on his partymen by a committee headed by a retired Judge of the Madras High Court.

He said one such police excess was committed on Tuesday night when the Villupuram district secretary of the party, Kumaran, was taken to the police station on the pretext of some enquiry. He was charged with indulging in extortion in the name of collecting funds for the party.

When Mr Kumaran denied the allegations, the Sub-Inspector of the station filed a case against him on the charge of misbehaving with the police and remanded him in custody.
