Having proved its worth with the establishment of a hygiene product unit in Dindigul, Poland is trying to expand its footprint in Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai, according to Poland’s Ambassador to India, Piotr Klodkowski.
On a five-day visit to the State, Mr. Klodkowski told reporters in Chennai on Wednesday that the Polish firm TZMO with Bella India was expanding its production capacity, while a Chennai-based firm was in the process of acquiring a firm in the energy sector in Poland.
“In India, we have about dozen firms and only one in Tamil Nadu. But, we are not satisfied. We have a good presence in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and West Bengal. A Polish delegation is coming to India during January 2013 and we are planning to bring it to Tamil Nadu. Usually, on arriving in the Capital, each delegation would visit Mumbai or Bangalore. But, this time, we are taking them to Chennai. We are seeking partners in the field of energy, Information Technology, food processing and deep coal mining.”
Addressing members of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Ambassador said that Poland would be joining Eurozone sooner or later, but was not in a position to give an exact date.
“The bilateral trade between India and Poland is $2 billion and we are not happy with i. There is enough scope to expand and hit the $10 billion mark within the next 10 years. We have to explore trade in the areas of energy, food processing, IT, coal mining and aerospace,” said P. Murari, advisor to FICCI president.
