Points problem delays trains in Tiruvarur

July 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - TIRUVARUR:

Problem in a Point on the railway track near Tiruvarur junction delayed movement of passenger trains in the region on Tuesday. Sources said that a goods train from Chennai to Karaikal Port arrived at the Tiruvarur Junction in the morning and after change of engines must have proceeded further to Karaikal.

That had to be done only after obtaining the permission of the Station Manager. But incidentally, before the permission was granted, it was noticed that a problem had occurred with regard to Point in the railway track just outside the Junction.

After the defect was noticed, technicians were rushed to the spot and they set right the trouble in about 90 minutes. During the time, passenger trains that were supposed to cross Tiruvarur were detained in other nearby stations pending the repair work.

The trains that suffered delays included the Tiruchi-Karaikal Passenger service and Mannargudi-Mayiladuthurai Passenger service at Kulikarai, while the Ernakulam-Karaikal Express was detained at Koradachery station.

After the Point was set right, trains were operated under caution at the spot to avoid further trouble to the passengers.
