PMK wants solatium hiked for encounter victims

April 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - SALEM:

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss has questioned the announcement of a solatium of Rs. 3 lakh to Tamil workers who were killed in an encounter in Andhra Pradesh while the same government had given Rs. 10 lakh as solatium to workers from Andhra Pradesh who were killed in a building collapse in Moulivakkam in Chennai in June 2014.

Addressing reporters here on Sunday, he alleged that the workers were brutally murdered by the special task force personnel in Seshachalam forests. He also questioned why the Tamil Nadu government hurriedly buried the bodies of the victims that were brought from Andhra Pradesh. “Is the life of Tamils worthless?” he asked demanding the State government to give a solatium of Rs. 25 lakh to the families of victims apart from free houses and a government job.

Over 3,000 Tamil workers are languishing in various prisons in Andhra Pradesh. The prisoners should be released and rehabilitation measures should be taken up for them. The government should create job opportunities and training for youth to start new business in their villages, he demanded further.
