May 30, 2011 12:12 am | Updated November 17, 2021 01:10 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The Puducherry unit of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) on Sunday requested Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to extend reservation for Most Backward Classes to group A and group B posts in the territorial government departments.

In a statement, the party said that unlike Tamil Nadu, the current policy in the Union Territory was such that reservation for MBC extended only to C and D group posts in the government departments. The Chief Minister should take steps to implement reservation for all government posts in the Union Territory, the statement said.

The PMK also requested the government to create a separate department for the Backward Classes.
