With the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) Unit I tripping twice in the past few months, the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) has urged political parties to break their silence over the issue at least now.
In a statement, the PMANE steering committee said the KKNPP, which took almost 18 months to begin commercial power generation from the ‘First Approach to Criticality’, had developed “major snag” within two weeks and had been completely shutdown.
According to reports, the reactor and the turbine at KKNPP Unit 1 tripped due to technical problems in the switch yard.
While the authorities maintain that “nothing happened to the turbine or to the core,” the Southern Regional Load Despatch Centre (SRLDC) announced that “reactor and turbine generator tripped.”
Charge against parties
Parties in Tamil Nadu, especially the DMK and the AIADMK, continue to maintain a stoic silence over the issue and the danger faced by the people for the fear of antagonising the Centre and hurting themselves in all the ongoing corruption cases, the PMANE charged.
