Prime Minister Manmohan Singh can directly intervene in the Mullaperiyar dam issue only if the matter is not pending before the Supreme Court, Minister of State in the PMO V. Narayanasamy said on Saturday. Responding to a query on the Centre's stand on the issue, he said: “It is an issue pertaining to the two States and is now pending in the apex court. The Prime Minister had asked both the States to sit and discuss the matter but they refused.” Participating in a session on the second day of All India Editors' Conference on Social Sector Issues here, he said that the Centre planned to amend the IPC to avoid bribery in the private sector.
