Plea to remove Tiruvarur Collector

April 16, 2014 10:37 am | Updated May 21, 2016 11:40 am IST - CHENNAI:

An Assistant to the Deputy Block Development Officer, Mannargudi, under suspension, has filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the election authorities to remove the Tiruvarur Collector, who is also the District Election Officer, from the post. This is required so that the people could exercise their franchise in the coming Lok Sabha polls freely, he said.

In the writ petition, A.M.Raja of Melavasal, alleged that Collector C. Natarajan had abused his power. In this regard, he had filed a complaint with the authorities last month.

But no action was taken. Hence, the present plea.

When the matter came up before the First Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Satish K.Agnihotri and Justice M.M.Sundresh, counsel for the election authorities submitted that if the petitioner makes a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer, it would be considered and appropriate orders be passed.

Following this, the court said that nothing survived in the petition for adjudication.
