The Madras High Court has sought the response of the Vaniyambadi Town police in Vellore district to a petition filed by the leader of the minority wing of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) to register a case against those who had issued a life threat to him for having opposed the views of Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel on beef eating.

Justice M.S. Ramesh directed a government counsel to obtain instructions from the police on the petition filed by J. Aslambasha, the chairman of the minority wing of TNCC.

The petitioner had claimed to have been harassed over phone by the supporters of the Minister for having controverted her stand on beef eating in June last year.

He also alleged that the police failed to register a First Information Report (FIR) on the basis of his complaint despite having been provided with the phone numbers from which the threat calls were received.
