A petition was filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday saying that the process of certificate verification of successful candidates for the post of Lecturer in Government Polytechnic Colleges should be held without excluding differently abled candidates.

The petitioner, M. Vanathi of Dindigul, said that she had successfully completed her M.Tech. in 2017 and had applied for the post of Lecturer in Government Polytechnic Colleges after a notification for direct recruitment, in which 4% of the posts were reserved for differently abled applicants, .

The petitioner said that she had successfully cleared the entrance examination and the certificate verification process was supposed to be held from November 23 to 25 in Chennai for engineering subjects and in Madurai and Villupuram for non-engineering subjects.

However, the list released for certificate verification did not include differently abled persons and the issue was also brought to the notice of the Teachers’ Recruitment Board. The Board replied that only after determining the degree of disability the list would be released.

She claimed that this was violative of the the rights of differently abled candidates and the selection process should have been held simultaneously. The selection process of engineering candidates was cancelled but it was conducted for non-engineering subjects in Madurai and Villupuram.

The petitioner said that this was a clear discrimination between candidates and differently abled persons would lose out on seniority.

Justice P.D. Audikesavalu directed notice to the various departments of welfare of the differently abled persons and Teachers’ Recruitment Board to file their counter-affidavits within four weeks.
