A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court bench here seeking a ban on the release of ‘Annakodi’, a Tamil film directed by veteran director Bharathiraja in all the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
The petition filed by A.K. Ragupathy, president of the Thevar Pasarai Iyakkam, claimed that the film’s plot was about a girl from the Thevar community falling in love with a boy from a Scheduled Caste.
“The contents of the movie have offended Section 5B of the Cinematography Act, 1952. The film contains objectionable scenes and dialogues, which might incite communal disharmony and might bring about public disorder,” contended the petitioner’s counsel R. Maheswaran while seeking the ban.
