The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking a direction to the authorities to provide adequate police protection to people who come to Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district to pay homage to Immanuel Sekaran at his memorial on September 11 (Wednesday), and provide parking lots for the people.

The petition had been filed by Vijaya of Cuddalore.

Justice N. Kirubakaran also dismissed another petition filed by Sivakumar of the Tamil Puligal Organisation praying for a direction to restrain the authorities from preventing members of the organisation residing in Ramanathapuram district, from hiring private vehicles to go to Ondiveeran memorial in Tirunelveli district.

The petitioner also sought police permission and protection to participate in the function scheduled for August 20.

Mr. Justice Kirubakaran had reserved orders on the petition while he was on the Madurai Bench on August 31.

Orders notice

The High Court ordered notice on a public interest litigation petition seeking to ban Guru Pooja and caste-based rallies in the State.

The First Bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice R.K. Agrawal and Justice M. Sathyanarayanan said the notice would be returnable by September 23.
