May 12, 2011 01:53 am | Updated 01:53 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered that a petition challenging the appointment of three Information Commissioners (ICs) and the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) for the State be tagged with another writ petition dealing with the same issue and pending before the First Bench.

In her petition, S. Vijayalakshmi of Periyar Nagar here, stated that the appointment of R. Perumalsamy, T. Srinivasan and Sarada Nambi Arooran as ICs and K.S. Sripathi as CIC was in violation of the Right to Information Act.

When the matter came up before a Vacation Bench, comprising Justices V. Dhanapalan and A. Arumugha Swamy, on behalf of the government it was submitted that the issue in question in the present writ petition had already been taken cognisance of by the First Bench in another petition. Therefore, this matter may be tagged along with the earlier petition. Following this, the Bench passed the order.
