Thousands of pirated compact discs of latest movies were seized from a CD shop during a raid conducted by the Vadaserry police in Nagercoil on Saturday. According to police sources, a special team led by Town Deputy Superintendent of Police Udayakumar conducted a raid on a CD shop and a godown in the upstairs of the shop near Clock Tower Junction.
During the raid, the team seized thousands of pirated CDs of latest movies, including Singam-2, 555 and Ethirneechal, wrappers, empty CDs and pornographic film CDs. The team also conducted a raid on the residence of the CD shop owner, Mahadevan (62) at Periyarasingam Street in Vadaserry.
It may be recalled that on June 28, Vadaserry Police Inspector Rajasekaran was caught red-handed by the sleuths of the district unit of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing while accepting bribe from the CD shop owner’s son Kannan.
Two days ago, Kannan’s wife was arrested for producing pirated CDs of new movies. The police have registered a case against Mahadevan, his sons Saravanan and Kannan, and Vijayan and Senbagaraj, both workers in the shop.
