Set up in 2002, the facility offers services round-the-clock

The Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences has received certification from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for its 24-hour laboratory.

The accreditation was in the field of clinical biochemistry, clinical pathology, haematology and immunohaematology, microbiology, serology, histopathology and cytopathology, the hospital said in a release.

NABL evaluates the laboratory tests based on the documentation of process, training of laboratory personnel, safety practices, proper biomedical waste management and various other requirements.

Quality control

The laboratory tests have to meet stringent internal and external quality control practices.

“The laboratory services are offered round the clock with samples being received and tested throughout the day. It is supported by hospital information services providing online reports for quick availability of reports thereby reducing the time required to start patient management,” the hospital said in a release.

The laboratory was established in 2002 along with the multi-specialty institute, the release said.
