Acting on a tip-off, a team led by S. Ulaganathan, inspector of PEW, Vaniyambadi conducted a raid at the unit at Kandrampalli near Ambur following orders from the Superintendent of Police, Vellore P. Pakalavan and Additional SP Balakrishnan.

Gopi (39), a resident of Kuruvapalayam in Ambur taluk, was running the spurious liquor manufacturing unit.

Gopi, along with his wife Usha (36), his associate Govindaraj (36) and a worker Deepak (37) of Veerankuppam were arrested from the unit, Mr. Ulaganathan said.

“We seized 40 750 ml bottles, two motorbikes used for transporting the liquor, and a few cans containing essence that is used to make the liquor from the unit,” he said.
