Communal outfits have taken advantage of the ignorance of the common public of Tiruchengode to launch an unethical tirade against progressive writer Perumal Murugan to silence him for ever, said Ponneelan, noted writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee.

Perumal Murugan is a strong willed writer and will bounce back to the writing field with the solid backing of the entire Tamil society, Mr. Ponneelan said at a seminar “Perumal Murugan will never die: writer and his rights” held here on Saturday.

The seminar was organised jointly by the Tamil Nadu Kalai Ilakkiya Perumandram and Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artistes Association (TNPWAA).

He said that saffron organisations have been trying for a long to gain entry into Tamil Nadu.

He called upon the democratic and progressive forces to join hands to show the doors to communal elements.

Poet Mathurabarathi, district president, TNPWAA, presided. L. Vincent of the TNPWAA, Boomibalan, district secretary of the Tamil Nadu Kalai Ilakkiya Perumandram, Niraimathi, district secrtary of the TNPWAA and others spoke expressing their solidarity with Perumal Murugan and urging him to resume writing.
