Periyar varsity to start 10 more community colleges

A total of 328 students of various colleges affiliated to the Salem Periyar University received appointment orders at the two-day mass recruitment drive conducted by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) here on Friday.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, K. Muthuchelian, distributed the appointment orders and inaugurated Community Colleges.

Addressing the gathering Mr. Muthuchelian said that those who discontinued their studies could continue it through community colleges. The diploma programmes such as tailoring, jewellery manufacturing, machinery operation etc would also be taught through these colleges. The University had taken the initiative to start 10 such colleges in its affiliation, he further added.

He said: “the Community College movement, an innovative system of education aimed at empowering the disadvantaged society, has today become a national phenomenon.”
