The death row convict, A.G. Perarivalan, on Friday filed a fresh petition in a special court demanding “effective monitoring” of the probe by the Multi Disciplinary Monitoring Agency (MDMA), which was constituted in 1999 to probe the larger conspiracy angle behind the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.
His counsel N. Chandrasekaran filed the petition before N. Dhandapani, Judge of the Designated Court under the now-defunct Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act here. In his petition, Perarivalan claimed that he would be affected by the outcome of the pending investigation by the MDMA, which was assigned to go into the larger conspiracy.
He said proper investigation would throw more light on the hidden truths and accused not named by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) or MDMA. He alleged that “the ongoing investigation clearly demonstrates that the agency is protecting several unnamed accused persons and proceeding to close the criminal case.”
Explaining that he did not seek reinvestigation of the case, Perarivalan said he sought effective monitoring of the investigation by the MDMA.
The court posted the matter for further hearing on September 19.
