Close on the heels of the Shantiniketan case, a 14-year-old boy of a private school here was allegedly forced to drink his own urine by three teachers after he sought permission to go to the toilet.
The boy’s parents claimed: as the students sitting under the shade of a tree were asked to read soon after the class began, the boy asked for permission to go to the toilet, to which the three teachers monitoring them refused initially.
As the boy kept on pestering the teachers, they asked him to urinate under the tree and drink it and later beat him up, according to the complaint filed with the school by his parents.
Upset at the alleged treatment meted out to him, the boy escaped to his native village Sholanmalai near Kumbakonam, where he has been admitted to a government hospital, the parents said.
The parents have not lodged police complaint so far. The incident took place on Friday.
However, the management of the Agaram Seekur Sirumalar High School here denied the allegation. But the teachers have been suspended and a departmental inquiry is ordered.
Officials of the education department on Saturday visited the school to probe the matter.
School’s counter allegation
Reacting to reports about the alleged incident, the school Correspondent (administrator), Muthamizh Selvan, who announced the suspension, alleged the student had brought with him a drug mixed tobacco substance to the school.
The teachers, who got irritated by the constant munching of the stuff, had only warned him and never asked him to drink urine, Mr. Selvan alleged.
The student was spoiling the others, he claimed, adding, “how do you expect the teachers to remain mute spectators to such behaviour. Are not the teachers answerable to the parents of other students, if they also become indisciplined?”
He said the student, immediately after going out of the school, had made a false complaint to his parents and maintained that such an incident did not take place at all.
The school management was ready to face any inquiry, he said.
