A team of retina specialists from Chennai on Monday examined the seven women patients, who have been admitted to Aravind Eye Hospital after they reportedly suffered from post-operative cataract surgery infection at Tenkasi Government Hospital.

As the poor aged patients have been administered with modern intravitreal injections to neutralise the problem, it is expected that they would start recovering fast in the days to come.

Intravitreal injections, which can be injected directly into the eye, are commonly used to treat retinal diseases. The injections are especially effective in treating wet age-related macular degeneration, which accounts for more than 90 per cent of blindness caused by the disease.
