‘Patan Patola’ gets GI registration

‘Patan Patola’, a double-sided saree from Gujarat and a favourite of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, has got recognition from Geographical Indication (GI) Registry. Chinnaraja G. Naidu, Assistant Registrar of Trade Marks and Geographical Indications, told The Hindu , “After receiving applications from associations, we published them in our journal last March. As the mandatory period was over, we granted tag to whoever applied.”

About two years ago, the Patan Double Ikat Patola Weavers’ Association, Patan district, Gujarat, had filed an application before the Registry of GI for registration of its products under the name of ‘Patan Patola.’
