The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), scheduled for May 6, came in for criticism from various political leaders in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani said the decision of the CBSE not to change the NEET syllabus would put the students of Tamil Nadu at a grave disadvantage. He pointed out that it was reported on January 18 that Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar had said the syllabus of State examination boards would be considered while organising NEET this year.
Mr. Veeramani said the decision of the Board was a blow to the cause of social justice. He urged various political parties of the State to unite in protesting NEET.
TMC president G.K. Vasan also criticised the Centre and State government for their unwillingness to consider State syllabus for NEET. He said the NEET would come in between the medical aspirations of students from rural areas. Mr. Vasan said Tamil Nadu should either obtain an exemption from NEET for the year or the State board syllabus should be considered for the examination.
MP and PMK youth leader Anbumani Ramadoss criticised the State government for its failure to open NEET coaching centres. He said government had managed to open only 100 centres after promising a total of 412. He said that even if the government opened the remaining 312 centres now, the pressure of Plus Two examinations would mean that students won’t be able to prepare effectively for the NEET.
