Party has forgotten Alagiri: DMK

Organising secretary Alandur S. Bharathi rules out the possibility of inviting Alagiri to return

January 06, 2015 12:00 pm | Updated 12:00 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The DMK has said both the party and the world has forgotten the former Union Minister, M.K. Alagiri, and he was making statements and meeting the press only to prove his existence.

Organising secretary of the party Alandur S. Bharathi also ruled out the possibility of inviting Mr. Alagiri to return to the party.

“The DMK is not a cheap political party to invite a person to join it. When the DMK was launched, its founder Anna only invited Thanthai Periyar to take over the leadership. But it never asked anyone to join it,” he told reporters at Anna Arivalayam.

Asked about Mr. Alagiri’s remark that he would return to the DMK only if the party corrected itself, Mr. Bharathi said there was no need for the party to respond to Mr. Alagiri as he was not a member of the DMK.

“It is unfair on his part to make such remarks against a political party. His words have pained DMK men. He must correct himself first,” Mr. Bharathi said.

Mr. Alagiri, who was the party’s south zone organising secretary before his expulsion, was disappointed that the DMK had successfully conducted its organisational polls, he said.

“Our leader, M.K. Stalin has ensured that free and fair elections are conducted. Mr. Alagiri expected chaos in the polls so that he could capitalise on the situation. But he was proved wrong,” Mr. Bharathi said
