Condemning the punishment given to a girl student for coming late to school, parents picketed the Panchayat Union Middle School in Kumaramanagalam in Tiruchengode Taluk here on Friday.

On June 22, the Class VII girl came late to the school and headmistress Papathi asked her to squat 100 times. The girl did so and after reaching home in the evening complained of uneasiness and body pain, and she could not walk.

On June 24, iron tablets were distributed to the students and the girl refused to consume. She said that consuming the tablets would result in vomiting.

The headmistress allegedly told her that all the freebies given by the Government for students would not be given to her if she refused to take the tablet.

The girl informed her parents who along with members of women self-help group picketed the school on Friday. They condemned the act of headmistress and demanded action against her. Later, they left the premises.
