The wife of Panna Ismail, a terror suspect nabbed at Puttur in Andhra Pradesh on October 5, has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Madras High Court for a direction to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital here to provide proper medical treatment to her husband.

She has also said she should be permitted to see her husband in the hospital and stay with him till he was discharged.

Shameem Banu of Tirunelveli said she came to know from the media that her husband had been arrested by the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh police at Puttur. She also came to know that at the time of arrest, the police fired at Ismail and he received a bullet injury. He had been admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital here.

On October 6, she went to the hospital to see her husband, but she was not allowed. The police asked her to come to the hospital on October 7. When she went again, she was turned away. She was not in a position to know whether her husband was getting proper treatment. He was in danger.

She said denial of permission to her and family members to see the suspect violated Art.21 of the Constitution. She sent a representation to the authorities requesting proper medical treatment and permission to meet her husband.
