Panel to visit Periyar dam on November 30

Committee members from Kerala and TN are expected to participate

The Supreme Court appointed a three-member monitoring committee, which is expected to inspect the Periyar dam on November 30 and convene a meeting, according to PWD sources here on Friday.

The committee members from Kerala and Tamil Nadu are expected to participate.

The Tamil Nadu members plan to discuss transporting men and materials through Vallakadavu and providing electricity to the dam site. They will also raise the issue of frequent disruption in transporting construction materials to the dam site in order to strengthen the baby dam.

Earlier, the panel planned to visit the dam on November 27 but postponed it to November 30.

The sources said the Kerala did not provide electricity to the dam site even after payment of fees. Neither did it lay a road between dam site and Vallakadvu to transport men and material.

Kerala had assured to provide these facilities immediately to monitor dam round the clock.
