Renovation of ancient temples will be undertaken without damaging murals in temples.
This was decided here on Wednesday at a meeting of a high-level committee formed by the State government to suggest measures for protecting the murals.
According to an official release, while renovating temples, a district-level committee, comprising the Regional Joint Commissioner, HR and CE, Regional Assistant Divisional Engineer and a member of the State Archaeology Department should be formed and the renovation done under its guidance. The high-level committee, headed by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister K.R. Periyakaruppan, was formed by the government to suggest steps to protect murals in ancient temples.
The committee, comprising the Secretary, HR and CE; Principal Secretary/Commissioner, Archaeology Department; Superintendent, Central Archaeology Department, Chennai; Chief Engineer ( Buildings), PWD; and representatives of the Regional Conservation Laboratory and INTACH, here on Wednesday discussed steps to protect the murals.
