The People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) will organise a demonstration at Palayamkottai on November 5 in support of the ongoing anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project agitations.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, PMANE activists Mano Thangaraj, Lena Kumar and S.P. Udhayakumar said that the decision to hold the protest near Palayamkottai bus stand was taken at a meeting here on Monday night.
They said that the Department of Atomic Energy, “which is spreading rumours regarding KKNPP and thereby creating panic among the public, particularly among the local communities,” should stop such “malicious propaganda”.
“We'll meet the leaders of various communities, religions, traders, unorganised sector labourers and students to mobilise support for the protest against KKNPP.”
As the relay fast against KKNPP entered the 15th day at Idinthakarai on Tuesday, 29 women with their infants, all aged between three and five months, participated in the agitation.
The babies, kept in cradles at the protest venue, were not nursed for an hour in support of the protest.
Representatives of the anti-KKNPP front, who met District Collector R. Selvaraj on Tuesday afternoon, nominated RC priest M.P. Jesuraj and M. Pushparayan as their representatives on the team to be formed by the State government to negotiate with the Centre's expert committee.
