Pained by police firing, says Sagayam

Condoles bereaved families

Senior IAS officer U. Sagayam has, in a video message, expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the police firing in Thoothukudi last week. The video, circulated on social media, shows the officer making a few statements about the incident.

The officer said he was deeply pained at the news of the killing of 13 persons in the firing.

‘Sharing the suffering’

He said he was experiencing inexplicable pain for the past two days.

“Basically, I am a citizen of a free country. I have a duty to share the suffering of my fellow countrymen. That way, I express my deep condolences to the families of those who were killed,” Mr. Sagayam said in the video.

“As far as I am concerned, I support any righteous and just initiatives taken forward by the Tamil society,” he added.
