Not deterred by defeats, “Election King” K. Padmarajan has come here with nomination papers to fight as independent candidate for Rajya Sabha seat. He filed the nomination for 171{+s}{+t}time in elections and third time in Rajya Sabha election in Puducherry.

Though the name of Mr. Padmarajan figured in the Limca Book of Records for being the “most unsuccessful candidate,” he wants to create further records as a person who contested more number of elections in the world.

Mr. Padmarajan said, “So far I have spent Rs.20 lakh in contesting the polls in various places in the country. Winning election will not bring any record on my name and my ultimate aim is to create record.”

The 56-year-old Padmarajancontested against leaders such as Jayalalithaa, M. Karunanidhi in Assembly polls, Narendra Modi in parliamentary election and President Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential elections.

Spot fines

The Puducherry Traffic Police has been collecting spot fines nowadays. A gazette notification to generate road safety fund through spot fine was issued on August 20. With residents in this coastal town often showing little regard for traffic rules, police have been able to collect spot fines in some 750 cases early this week.

Changing convention

For Government employees, the custom is to greet their seniors with a lemon for any occasion. Around 142 daily-rated employees of the Government Central Press who were absorbed as regular employees were seen waiting in a queue with a lemon and a towel to present them to the Chief Minister in his chamber the other day.

Mr. Rangasamy handed over the n orders to a few employees and later left to meet a French delegation . The workers handed over the lemons to the Speaker V. Sabapathy and other senior officials in the Assembly after receiving the orders.
