The government has announced a slew of programmes for the overall development of Dharmapuri district, said P. Palanisamy, Higher Education Minister, here on Saturday.

He inaugurated new school buildings for Kathiripuram, Kundalamaduvu Panchayat Union Middle Schools in Pappireddipatti, and Adhikarapatti Government Higher Secondary School, and a new ration shop at Menaci.

He said that the Chief Minister had allocated Rs. 4 crores to establish Arts and Science Colleges at Harur and Pappireddipatti during the current academic year. It would benefit 650 students and enhance their employment opportunities.

Within six months of forming the government, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had implemented a number of welfare programmes in the state, the Minister added.

Mr. Palaniappan said that the district will soon get a SIPCOT industrial park, a mega food park, cooperative industrial estate, two arts colleges, hospital. An amount of Rs. 20 crore had been allocated to develop Vathalmalai as a tourism spot.

He the Menaci Primary Agriculture Cooperative Bank had granted crop loans totalling more than Rs. 1 crore.

Later, Mr. Palaniappan distributed cycles to 105 students at Adhikarappatti Government Higher School.

He inspected various sites for the new Government Arts and Science College.
