When women unleash their imagination, high art is a likely outcome.

A group painting show featuring about 50 women artists at Indigo Gallery, Cholamandal Artists’ Village, bristled with variety.

The exhibits ranged across realistic, semi-realistic, abstract, semi-abstract, contemporary and terracotta works as well as sculptures.

Artist G. Sridalaadevi, founder-secretary Pondicherry Art Akademy, which hosted the event, said 54 women artists participated in the 4th National Painting Exhibition (Women Artists’ Group).

P. Gopinath, Secretary, Cholamandal Artists’ Village appreciated the Pondicherry Art Akademy for “such a wonderful initiative of uniting all the women artists to showcase their art.”

Catalogue released

A 60 page exhibition catalogue depicting the painting, profile picture and details of the participants was released by M. Senathipathi, President, Cholamandal Artists’ Village.

Artist A. Viswam expressed delight at witnessing so many women artists under one roof, “which was a never before experience.”

K. K. Sekar, president, Pondicherry Art Akademy, noted that each painting was unique in its own way and was an expression of the individuality of the artist.

Plans are already on to make the next year’s show on a bigger scale for the cause of art, Mr. Sekar added.
